My name is Jeremy Dancey and I
have been training in Seicho Jutsu since 1996, I began training under
Master Larry Myyra before becoming a direct student of Grandmaster Daniel Verkerke.
I began studying Seicho Jutsu in my first year of college, in 1996. In
high school I had run track and played rugby, achieving success in both
but left wanting more than simply running all day. I saw martial arts as
the ideal method to couple physical and mental training into one. At
that point, spiritual development was not among my training goals.
The adjustments I have had to make to my perceptions and general
understanding since joining Seicho Jutsu have been remarkable. The
curriculum has helped me to transcend the need to rely solely on the
physical aspects of fighting and to tap into the skills and gifts that I
never knew I had. Although it often feels as though I am 'going against
the grain,' the challenge presented by such an environment will ensure
that I am always learning new things and extending myself well beyond my
comfort zone.
In my time with Grandmaster Verkerke I have learned many lessons, the
greatest of which is the importance of balanced personal growth, and
that Martial Arts is best used as a forum to better my whole life, and
not just a couple of areas. The psychic and spiritual development that I
had paid no mind to previously has now become an essential part of my
training and day-to-day living.
Currently I live in Kitchener, Ontario, with my wife Ing and son Julian,
and work as a Robotics Technician in Stratford.
