We can not lose people we love. We never own or possess people. We possess our own memory of these people. We can lose our memory of these people or our memory of these people can change with their last actions. In reality we can lose a piece of our memory. The piece that was overridden by the actions of the people we love. In essence, when the memory we have of a person changes we can lose that part of a person. It is still up to us to let that love / memory go. When we love someone, it’s like giving them a piece of our soul. We can not control what they do with this piece, but mentally we can temporarily override our thoughts to cope with the loss when rejected.
