KARATE - DO -
KATA
Each kata has infinite degrees of
vibratory value to the student of karate - do. In order to
understand this we must take the being (Student or Sanchin) and
divide it into three planes and classify the three into seven
groups.
1. BODY, MIND, SPIRIT
2. BODY, SPIRIT, MIND
3.MIND, BODY, SPIRIT
4. MIND, SPIRIT, BODY
5. SPIRIT, BODY, MIND
6. SPIRIT, MIND, BODY
7. TRANCENDENTAL FLOW
All the keys of the martial arts lie in kata. I do not mention fighting because fighting is only one attraction in the art. If one realizes this and becomes form, one need not call it fighting - even under attack. The attacker (Tori) is only the unseen aspect of kata -so- when the unseen does manifest, you, as defender (Uki) need only continue the flow or form. The attack does not have to be on the physical level. It can also be on the mental or spiritual levels. The attack does not have to be anything outside of ones self. ie: The attack can be on your own mental making, by denying the spirit you may be attacking the physical. This is done through non understanding. There can never be an attack from the physical. The physical is only the external expression of spirit. Mental is only the understanding of the forms, whether kata, human, plant, animal, wind or universe.
Let's first define the body or
vehicle. The part of sanchin that is vibrating the slowest. It is
composed of flexible and non-flexible matter that can be
classified biologically as fire, air, earth and water. It is
biodegradable once abondoned. The vehicle comes fully equipped
with sound, sight, smell, touch, and all that is needed to
experience the human jurney. Sight can be experienced in two
forms. Insight and the sight that is seen through the eye, an
organism that captures and regulates the inflow of reflected and
direct light. This allows the being to see matter vibrating in
it's own scope of vibration. There are two eyes so that depth can
be experienced. Insight has no scope. It is infinite, it is
experienced by the "I", being or the being, beings
third eye. Smell is a detector to direct foods, atmospheric enemies and
diseases in ones body. Touch is four limbs that are sensitized for transformation
and distribution of energy. There are two units, two hands and
two feet. All four can be conditioned to various degrees of
"Go" (Hard) or "Ju" (Soft). Hard for defence
and strength, soft for control and healing (another form of
exchange). Hearing/Sound consist of the vehicle receiving vibrations in
communication - (exchange of energy). The hearing mechanism also
controls the balance of the vehicle. Sensitivity is determined by
the individuals determination and discipline. This also relates
to all other senses. Taste is used for judging ones food. It is one of the hardest
senses to control on all planes.
Now that we have broken down body, mind and spiritwe can begin
establishing how each kata has it's infinite value to the
student. In reading this you might have to look back on the first
notes. This breakdown is used for the beginning student who is
entering the dojo for the first time. A student may enter the
dojo already realized with knowledge, but kata will let the
student become familiar with the language of the dojo. Just like
all schools, churches, institutions and countries have their own
languages - (forms of communications). The object of kata or form
is to let the student work with basic stances, blocks, strikes
and kicks to become balanced in movement, flowing on all planes.
We must remind ourselves that in truth there is no difference
between body and mind. There is only a difference in the degrees
of vibration. The body is the external manifistation of the mind,
or the material form of the mind. The name mind is given to the
analytical aspect of sanchin. This is where the external comes in
and the internal goes out. This is keeping it on a simple level.
We can also see the mind as the tool in which the individual
spirit, soul stores expresses and creates in a positve / negative
matter. This balanced point is the acknowledgement of knowledge
or understanding.
Mind in itself has no power, just like body in itself has no power. These two aspects - (planes) only have the power that is developed and employed by the individual entity or spirit. This is still on a simple basic level of the mind. Spirit or soul is the motivator. It is minut in size and atomic in nature. It's energy can expand and contract at will, but only if it is in conjunction with the will of sanchin. The individual spirit is only a minut part of the whole. Like an infinite speck of sand in an ocean of forever changing energy, but never changing form. That is the universal form of sanchin. It has no beginning or no end. It's energy flows from the universal spirit to the individual mind to be expressed in the individual body. It can be realized once one has evolved to this understanding.
